One of my favorite things to photograph during a newborn session are images of a real moments filled with love and emotion. Quiet moments where brand new parents are taking the time to really soak in the miracle that their family just experienced. Babies are born so often that sometimes it’s easy to forget what a true miracle it is when a baby is born and both the mama and the little one are healthy. This session was filled with so much love and so many sweet moments and I’m so grateful to be a part of this gorgeous little girl’s journey. From while she was still growing away inside of her mama through her 1st birthday - and hopefully far beyond…

FIRST LOOK AT BABY’S 3 MONTH SESSION

I met the most beautiful family this week. They brought their gorgeous baby boy and his big brother to the studio for portraits. I’m so excited to share this little glimpse into the session. Have you ever seen a more precious little guy?! Just wait until you see his big brother!!!

I can’t wait to dig into editing the rest of the images from this session. 3 month sessions don’t tend to be as popular for a milestone session as a 6 month or 1st birthday session do but this is such an unforgettable stage to capture. They have changed so much since they were born and there are so many beautiful things to document at this age that will be different by the time they are sitting up on their own. Many babies are holding their heads up and amazing little personalities are starting to emerge. It’s such a fleeting, remarkable thing to document.

THE IMPORTANCE OF PHOTOGRAPHING MOTHERS: A MOTHER’S DAY TRIBUTE

I’ve always loved photos. I have my mom to thank for that. Growing up, photo after photo lined the hallways of our home. Old black and white images of past generations hung alongside current family photos and school pictures of my brothers and I. Rows of fat albums bursting with prints and stacks of boxes filled with loose images covered the shelves of the hall closet. Some of my favorite memories are of my family sitting around the living room laughing, passing old photos around and remembering good times together.

As time moves forward, each memory frozen in time in those photos means more. It doesn’t matter if it is a professional portrait, a snapshot printed off of an iPhone, an awful school photo or a cheesy mall photo with Santa or the Easter Bunny; printed images are one of the very few tangible items in our lives that grow in value every day.

I’m so grateful for every photograph that I have of all of the wonderful mothers in my family. In honor of Mother’s Day this year, I thought it would be a sweet way to pay tribute to them by sharing some of my favorite old photos.

MAMAS… HAVE SOMEONE TAKE PHOTOS OF YOU WITH YOUR CHILDREN!

I value photos so much - especially those involving motherhood - that I’ve built my entire career around it. I’m constantly telling my clients how important it is for them to be in the images with their children and I’m proud to say that I truly practice what I preach. Every year I make it a point to hire another amazing photographer to document our family. I’m just not the “set up the tripod and do it myself” kind of girl when it comes to this. I value the way other photographers can see and capture my family and I know that I could never get the genuine moments of love that these brilliant women have gotten for me. I want my children to have beautiful photos that have me in them with them and to be able to look at them as see how much they are loved. I could never put a value on these images - to me they are priceless. Below is a handful of my favorite pictures of me with my babies from over the years. I’ve been so fortunate to photographed by some truly talented artists who have become dear friends. They have photographed some of the most important times in my life and have helped me to leave behind a beautiful legacy for my kids…

BABY’S FIRST BIRTHDAY AND CLASSIC FAMILY PORTRAITS

This gorgeous little girl came to the studio for a milestone session to celebrate her 1st birthday and take some family portraits! She has the sweetest parents and the most adorable Goldendoodle who came with her. Families are always welcome and encouraged to be a part of every session with their babies. I think it’s so special when clients take advantage of milestone sessions to not only document your growing baby during their first trip around the sun but to also get updated family pictures along the way! It truly is a gift for your children to have beautiful portraits of their family while they are growing up.

Mom, dad and even their pup showed up dressed perfectly and brought the sweetest outfits for the baby. I’m so in love with the precious mix of the classic white dress with the pink floral romper and the first birthday tutu - each with its own matching bow! The whole family looks like they stepped out of a magazine and their blue clothing complimented the grey linen loveseat in the studio. My client had told me that her daughter tends to be very serious in front of the camera and she was really hopeful that I would be able to capture at least one great image of her smiling. I ended up with so many smiles and wonderful expressions (along with some crazy cute serious faces too) and I couldn’t be happier with how this session turned out!

For every session I always make sure that I am getting a beautiful mix of individual images of each baby along with the family together plus images of each parent with baby so that you have a gorgeous final gallery with all of the important groupings you need. For first birthday sessions, you have the added option to include a complementary bakery-made “naked” cake during your session so that we can capture some darling “cake-smash” images for you. I keep my cake smash sessions simple and true to my style with a white cake and minimal white frosting so your gallery is cohesive and you don’t need to worry about any clothing or your baby being stained by dyes. It usually ends up being one of the most fun parts of the session watching your baby dig into their first birthday cake!

I’m truly honored every time a family chooses me to document these moments!!!

TIMELESS FAMILY MILESTONE PORTRAITS IN LITTLETON

I’m so excited to share some of my favorite images from this recent session! It’s such an honor to be asked to document a special milestone for a family. I’ve been lucky enough to be able to photograph both of these stunning girls when they were graduating from high school in addition to their family portraits! Capturing images like these are so important for your family legacy and will be a treasure to look back on throughout generations.

We took advantage of the gorgeous spring colors here in Littleton and did this session in one of my preferred outdoor locations. I was so happy when they told me they would be including their Grandma and their Golden Retreiver in the session too! Time passes quickly and it makes my heart so happy to know that they will always have these images to remember this time in their lives.
